flash forward was fun! i feel really lucky to have been able to attend. thanks to everyone who made it possible.
two former colleagues presented, and i was delighted to stop in for a few minutes to each of their talks. joey lott presented about stylizing flex applications -- a talk i once had the pleasure of experiencing as a patient tutorial at my desk. another former schemer, marc leuchner, co-presented about designers and developers playing nicely together (he is talented at both). go marc!
my favorite talk was as3 particle effects by seb lee-delisle. he seems like a really good-natured person, his talk covered fun material, he explained his code patiently and thoroughly, and was genuinely excited to see what variations participants of the session could come up with. really nice.
i also enjoyed meeting mario klingemann. i asked whether he does his machine/art projects for work or for fun. he answered that it was both -- that he started off doing them for fun, but then people want to hire him to do similar things. he said that if you do what you love, the work follows. it was a beautiful reminder.
the last session on the last day was by eric natzke, who said something very interesting about his work and his art. he basically creates banner ads for a living, but this is not the reason he started using flash and is not what ultimately fulfills him. so he works on creative experiments as much as he can.
